Detail Studies

Practicing detail and rending with oils. Most of the painting was done with my left hand and then the fine detail, and blending was done with my right. I'm slowly learning to incorporate both arms. My right hand is better at fine detail type of work and my left arm is better at the gestural, more confident strokes.

Hope you like it. Thanks for coming by!

Left + Right Handed Painting

I love oils now. The turpentine and linseed oil used to make me sick but now I’m usingWinsor & Newton’ water-based oils. They work just like oils except water is replaced with turpentine. In fact, they ARE regular oils just chemically changed to break down with water. I paint with their “water mixable oil painting medium” to thin the paint out a little. No fast drying mediums since it dries pretty fast anyway. 70% lefty then right hand in the end for details.

The first two figure paintings are master studies based on the drawings of several well know artists. I misplaced their names but I’ll find them and update this soon. The last one was done using a photo reference I found online.

Thanks for stopping by!
